Brownies with Sweet Potatoes, Figs and Dates— Healthy Recipe

Healthy Brownies – Yes, It's Possible!

My favorite dessert is these delicious chocolate treats, but to make sure my body enjoys them too, I created this tasty recipe for healthier brownies that are completely free from refined sugars. Figs, dates, and sweet potatoes are naturally sweet ingredients, giving these brownies a rich, sweet flavor. This recipe is perfect as a snack or a nutritious dessert. You can even enjoy it for breakfast.

Ingredients

For the brownies:

  • 1 small to medium sweet potato

  • 5 dried figs

  • 3 large Medjool dates

  • 3 tbsp cocoa powder

  • 2 tbsp almond butter

  • 1 organic egg

  • 3 tbsp maple syrup

  • Pinch of salt

  • Optional: 1 scoop of your favorite cocoa/chocolate supplement, such as chocolate protein powder

  • Flour of choice (e.g., tiger nut flour, almond flour, or oat flour)

For the topping (optional):

  • White chocolate (we use the highest-quality chocolate possible, such as the Balance brand)

  • Almond butter

  • Chopped nuts or seeds

Instructions

Step 1: Cook or Roast the Sweet Potato

  • In a pot: Peel the sweet potato, cut it into pieces, and boil for 15-20 minutes until soft.

  • In the oven: Preheat the oven to 200°C (392°F), pierce the skin a few times, and bake for 20-25 minutes until soft.

Step 2: Soak the Figs and Dates

  • Soak the figs and dates in hot water for 5-10 minutes until soft.

  • Drain and blend them in a food processor until smooth.

Step 3: Make the Brownie Batter

  1. Mash the soft sweet potato in a mixing bowl.

  2. Add the cocoa powder, almond butter, egg, maple syrup, fig-date paste, and a generous pinch of salt.

  3. Optional: Add a scoop of cocoa/chocolate supplement for extra nutrients.

  4. Mix in your chosen flour to slightly thicken the batter.

Step 4: Bake

  • Preheat the oven to 180°C (356°F).

  • Line a baking dish with parchment paper and pour in the batter.

  • Bake for 15-20 minutes, depending on the thickness of the brownie.

  • Check doneness with a fork: if no batter sticks, it's ready.

Step 5: Add Toppings

  • Melt the white chocolate and spread it over the brownie.

  • Drizzle almond butter on top.

  • Optional: Sprinkle with chopped nuts or seeds for extra crunch.

Enjoy Your Healthy Brownies!

Enjoy these healthier brownies as a dessert or a delicious snack in between! The toppings are entirely optional, so you can personalize your brownie with your favorite ingredients.

Luisa
