Healthy Brownies – Yes, It's Possible!
My favorite dessert is these delicious chocolate treats, but to make sure my body enjoys them too, I created this tasty recipe for healthier brownies that are completely free from refined sugars. Figs, dates, and sweet potatoes are naturally sweet ingredients, giving these brownies a rich, sweet flavor. This recipe is perfect as a snack or a nutritious dessert. You can even enjoy it for breakfast.
Ingredients
For the brownies:
1 small to medium sweet potato
5 dried figs
3 large Medjool dates
3 tbsp cocoa powder
2 tbsp almond butter
1 organic egg
3 tbsp maple syrup
Pinch of salt
Optional: 1 scoop of your favorite cocoa/chocolate supplement, such as chocolate protein powder
Flour of choice (e.g., tiger nut flour, almond flour, or oat flour)
For the topping (optional):
White chocolate (we use the highest-quality chocolate possible, such as the Balance brand)
Almond butter
Chopped nuts or seeds
Instructions
Step 1: Cook or Roast the Sweet Potato
In a pot: Peel the sweet potato, cut it into pieces, and boil for 15-20 minutes until soft.
In the oven: Preheat the oven to 200°C (392°F), pierce the skin a few times, and bake for 20-25 minutes until soft.
Step 2: Soak the Figs and Dates
Soak the figs and dates in hot water for 5-10 minutes until soft.
Drain and blend them in a food processor until smooth.
Step 3: Make the Brownie Batter
Mash the soft sweet potato in a mixing bowl.
Add the cocoa powder, almond butter, egg, maple syrup, fig-date paste, and a generous pinch of salt.
Optional: Add a scoop of cocoa/chocolate supplement for extra nutrients.
Mix in your chosen flour to slightly thicken the batter.
Step 4: Bake
Preheat the oven to 180°C (356°F).
Line a baking dish with parchment paper and pour in the batter.
Bake for 15-20 minutes, depending on the thickness of the brownie.
Check doneness with a fork: if no batter sticks, it's ready.
Step 5: Add Toppings
Melt the white chocolate and spread it over the brownie.
Drizzle almond butter on top.
Optional: Sprinkle with chopped nuts or seeds for extra crunch.
Enjoy Your Healthy Brownies!
Enjoy these healthier brownies as a dessert or a delicious snack in between! The toppings are entirely optional, so you can personalize your brownie with your favorite ingredients.
Xoxo,
Luisa
